Chartres Cathedral West Facade
The west facade was begun at the very beginning of the rise of Gothic architecture in the mid-twelfth century. The right tower is from the thirteenth century and the left one is sixteenth century.

The Flamboyant upper part of the tower was built on top of an older tower in the sixteenth century.

Thirteenth Century - The north facade portals present a combination of Old and New Testament Figures. The left Portal portrays the Nativity and Annunciation of Mary. The central portal has Old Testament patriarchs and the Assumption and Coronation of Mary. The right portal has King Solomon and various prophets.
