Chartres Cathedral West Facade, Christ in Majesty with the Symbols of the Evangelists

1145. Three Royal Portals of the west facade are survivors of the Early Gothic church that was destroyed with the fire of 1194. The three portals were probably derivative of the portals at Saint-Denis Basilica, north of Paris, which is considered the birthplace of Gothic architecture
